DIY Black Glue Stained Glass

DIY

Every year for Valentine's Day, I set out some heart crafts for the kids. One of my go-to Valentine’s Day activities is an easy mosaic heart. (Thanks, Annalea!) I draw the outline with black marker and the kids get to color it in. They always come out really cute.

Enter black glue. When I came across someone using black glue as a crafting material, it blew my mind. I knew black glue would take these mosaic hearts to the next level, and it totally did! It adds fun texture and makes them look like stained glass.

Let’s get started. First, we have to make black glue! It’s still mind blowing to me, LOL.

You’ll need:

  • White liquid glue, like Elmers

  • Black acrylic paint

You’ll want a 1:1 ratio of glue and paint, so you’ll need a bottle of glue that is at least half full. If there is more glue in the bottle, pour it out until you only have half a bottle left. Then fill the rest of the bottle with black acrylic paint. Shake until well mixed. Boom, you have black glue.

Now let’s use our black glue to make some super cute stained glass hearts for Valentine’s Day. The fun thing about this craft is that you can make a different version of it for any season or occasion. A clover for St. Patrick's Day, eggs for Easter, etc.

Materials:

  • Black glue

  • Clear plastic

  • Sharpies/permanent markers

  • Paper

Step 1: Use a black marker to draw your heart design on a piece of paper.

Step 2: Tape the clear plastic on top of the paper. Trace the design onto the plastic using glue. Once you’re done, let the glue dry overnight.

Step 3: Use colorful permanent markers to fill in each section of the heart

Step 4: Hang in the window and ENJOY. It is so freaking cute.

I love Valentine’s Day. Pink is one of my favorite colors, so I love having an excuse to smother the house in it. Haha! Anyway, have the best day!

Always and Whatever
