Stove Top Potpourri, AKA Holiday in a Jar

DIY

This is my new favorite holiday tradition. Last year was the first year I tried stovetop potpourri, and let’s just say I’m never going back! Also, what rock do I live under? How did I not find this sensory treasure before now?

This makes a great gift, and it’s easy to make in bulk if needed. I plan to make this stovetop potpourri at least once a week during the holiday season. It just screams “holiday” to me, and it’s so pretty.

With stovetop potpourri, you can get as creative as you want. Sometimes I like to go all out, but other times I just throw everything in the pot, take deep breaths, and pretend I am not stressed. This is a great way to get your favorite holiday smells without introducing toxins into your home!  >_<

Personal Stovetop Potpourri

You’ll need:

  • 2-6 star anise

  • Handful of cloves

  • 2-5 cinnamon sticks

  • 1-3 slices of oranges

  • Apple slices (optional)

  • Rosemary or fresh pine

  • Cranberries (purely for looks)

You can change the quantities of these ingredients depending on what scents you prefer. You can also omit anything that you don't like. I’m not a huge fan of star anise, but I like the way it looks. I like to make cute designs in the orange slices using the clove.

Step 1: Add everything to a large pot of water.

Step 2: Turn to medium heat, until boiling. Once boiling, reduce to simmer.

Step 3: Now let your senses take over! You can continue adding water to keep the pot going, or toss when you’ve have enough. I’ve had some pots for 48+ hours.

Potpourri Gift Jars

Grab a jar and add all the ingredients above, but used dried orange slices. I like these medium sized mason jars. Then add some flair, and maybe a ribbon or sweet note. Gifts from the heart mean so much in this busy season of life!

Hope you’re being chill with yourself. The holidays are stressful AF. So proud of you, another crazy year down in history.

Stay warm friends <3
