DIY Angel Tassels

DIY

This is not my first DIY tassel blog. Let’s just say I’m a fan. In my previous blog, I taught you how to make the cutest heart-eye tassel ghosts (these were a real crowd pleaser). I think you’ll love these yarn tassel angels too!

You need:

  • Yarn

  • Cardboard, cut to your desired tassel length

  • String (if you want to make a garland)

  • Scissors

  • Cute, colored pipe cleaner

How to make a tassel:

Step 1: Cut a cardboard square to your desired tassel length. You’ll want to leave some extra length to allow for trimming. For example, if you want 4” tassels, the cardboard should be at least 4.5” tall.

Step 2: Wrap yarn around your cardboard template. Wrap about 30 times!

Step 3: Cut a piece of yarn (about 12” long) and slide it between the cardboard and yarn on the top of the cardboard. Tie a couple tight knots to secure the yarn.

Step 4: Carefully slide the tassel off the cardboard. Be gentle with your cardboard, because you’ll be reusing it for each tassel you make. Now that you have a big loop of yarn, grab your scissors and cut through the yarn to create the tassel’s loose ends.

Step 5: Cut an 8-10" piece of yarn and wrap it about an inch down from the top. This will form the top of the tassel (or your angel’s head in this case). Secure with a knot. You now have a tassel! Trim the ends for a clean, even appearance.

How to make tassels into angels:

Step 6: Cut a pipe cleaner in half. Place your finger in the center. Pull the ends over your finger and twist into a loop for the halo. Twist excess pipe cleaner around your finger. Then bend the loop 90 degrees to create the stem. Last, hot glue gun the pipe cleaner stem to the back of your angel’s head.

Step 7: String your angels for the cutest garland ever! You can hang individual angels as tree ornaments or anywhere you need a sweet little friend.

I love these angels so much! I have hung a couple as ornaments! If you want to add wings, grab some thick ribbon, cut about 6 inches long, scrunch in the middle and hot glue to the yarn!

I hope you guys are having the best holiday season you can! I know we are trying to just embrace the present time together without all the chaos of our normal celebrations.

Happy Holla Days!
