DIY Bird Feeders

DIY

These pectin bird seed shapes are so easy and fun! I could watch birds all day and that makes me feel like I’m aging faster than I should be.

Let’s get started!

You’ll need:

-Parchment paper

-1 Sure-Jell Pectin packet

-1/2 cup water

-1 cup bird seed

-Cookie cutters

-Straw

-String

Step 1

Bring 1/2 cup of water to a boil

Step 2

Add the packet of pectin and stir 1-2 minutes until dissolved

Step 3

Remove from heat and let cool for 1 full minute

Step 4

Add bird seed and stir until evenly mixed together

Step 5

Lay out your parchment paper. Place your cookie cutters on the parchment paper. Add the seed mixture to the inside of the cutter and press down to compact.

Step 6

After your cutters are full and drying wait about 20 minutes and poke a hole with the straw.

Step 7

Let dry over night! You could do it sooner, but you risk it not being as solid and becoming crumbly.

Step 8

Thread the string through the straw hole and hang on a visible tree branch. You don’t want to miss the cutie birds that are going to come enjoy your craft! Once the birds have eaten all the seed, you’ll want to cut the string off!

I love this activity so much. It is better in the cooler weather! These aren’t to be made in the middle of summer! Early spring, fall and don’t forget about the few winter birds that stick around.

Hope you enjoy making all the bird feeders your heart desires.

Always and Whatever
