DIY Lavender Citrus Candles

DIY

I recently saw porcelain lemon candles just like these ones at the store. Being a die-hard DIYer, my first thought is always, “I can totally make something like that!”

These DIY lavender citrus candles are the spring version of the mini pumpkin candles I made last fall as a DIY Friday project (over on @bestdayever.abq). Y’all went wild for those, so I’m excited to share these with you too! This is another fun and easy candle DIY.

Let’s get started!

You’ll need:

  • Oranges

  • Lemons

  • Wood wicks

  • Essential oil

  • Soy wax for candle making

  • Dried herbs for flair (optional)

Step 1: Hollow out fruit.

Cut the lemons in half. Use a spoon to remove the pulp, juice and seeds, leaving you with a hollow lemon rind. Do the same with the oranges. I tried getting fancy by cutting the rim in a zigzag. I ended up regretting that, and wish I cut straight in half. Do you!

Step 2: Melt wax.

In a microwave-safe dish, start warming the wax in 30-second increments, stirring at each completion, til the wax is completely melted and clear. While the wax is melting, place wood wicks in the center of the hollow rinds.

Step 3: Add scent.

I added about 15-20 drops of lavender and 10-15 drops of citrus to my wax. Feel free to make these as mellow or strong as you want. They would also be really great in a centerpiece. If they are purely for looks, no scent needed!

Step 4: Pour wax.

Fill the citrus cups with wax. The wax slowly seeped out of a hole in my orange, but it was slow enough that it still worked! Just lost some wax in the making. If your rinds are not perfect, don't worry! They’ll still work.

Step 5: Add flair and cool.

You’ll want to add any flair once the wax has started to solidify, but before it’s completely hardened. This will ensure that your flair will sits at the top of the candle and doesn’t sink to the bottom where you can’t see it.

Bada-bing.

Candle making makes me so proud! How do you feel? I know I'm impressed. Don’t forget for extra fun, add some intention to these babies.

Hope you enjoyed making these!
