Santa Claus Pom Poms

DIY

These Santa Claus pom poms can be made into a garland or hung individually. They are great as tree ornaments!

First, I’ll go over how to make a pom pom. This is one of my favorite crafts, but it can be time consuming to make a lot of them. After number 10 I usually hate them and curse them til I’m done. But I always love the outcome. #worthit

You’ll need:

  • Glue gun

  • White yarn

  • Felt for Santa’s hat

  • Pom pom maker or fork

  • Wooden bead for Santa’s nose

  • Tiny pom or puff for the ball on Santa’s hat

If you have pom pom makers, follow the instructions on the packaging. If you don’t have pom pom makers, you can use a fork.

Quick Fork Pom Pom Tutorial -

  1. Wrap yarn around the prongs of a fork, about 50 times. Make sure to leave a slight gap at the base of the prongs for step 3.

  2. Once you have wrapped yarn around the fork, cut it free from the yarn ball. Then cut another piece of yarn, about 8” long. Thread the end of this yarn between the two middle fork prongs, below where you wrapped the yarn in step 2.

  3. Grab the end of the threaded yarn and tie a tight knot. You will use this piece of yarn to attach the hat and also to hang the pom pom.

  4. Gently slide the yarn off the fork and cut through the loops on both sides.

  5. You should have a pom now! You’ll have to trim him. You can trim a lot or a little depending on the look and size you want.

  6. Don't trim the yarn you used to tie the pom pom together in step three. This will allow you to attach the hat and hang or tie the pom in your desired space!

Now that you have white pom poms, it’s time to make the felt hat. Draw a 4” circle, then fold the circle in half and cut in half. Holding the piece of felt on the rounded side, add hot glue to one edge of the half circle. Glue together to create the cone of Santa’s hat. Use hot glue to add the tiny pom/puff to the tip.

To attach the hat to the yarn pom, cut a very small slit toward the tip (behind the mini puff) and pull the long string through. I had to trim the rim a little bit to make it sit right.

Lastly, glue the wood bead below the hat’s rim for Santa’s little nose.
